Claude Opus 4.8 Is Live — Anthropic's New Frontier Flagship

May 29, 2026

Claude Opus 4.8 is in the model picker today. It's Anthropic's most capable frontier model — adaptive thinking, a 1M-token context window, and the highest quality rating of any model Alfrada offers. It steps in for Opus 4.7 as the top of the SOTA tier, at the same price.

What you can do

  • Pick Claude Opus 4.8 from the SOTA section of the model selector, ready for any session.
  • Strategic planning — hand it a messy situation and get a real plan back: market entry, go-to-market, org design, scenario trade-offs. It holds the whole picture together instead of giving you generic bullet points.
  • Financial analysis — model a business, pressure-test assumptions, read a set of statements, or build the argument behind an investment memo. It stays rigorous on the numbers and the reasoning at the same time.
  • Deep research and synthesis — point it at a long corpus and get a structured, defensible answer with the trade-offs spelled out, not a summary that loses the nuance.
  • Long-horizon agentic work — multi-step projects that run across many tool calls and many turns, where the model needs to remember what it decided three steps ago.
  • Adaptive thinking — it decides how deeply to reason. A simple question gets a fast answer; a hard one gets a long, careful one. No knob to set.
  • 1M-token context window — fits a full data room, a long research corpus, or hours of transcript in a single pass, with room to keep working.
  • Swarm-capable — put it in charge of a Swarm that delegates the legwork to faster, cheaper models, or drop it in as the specialist on the hardest sub-task.

Where this shows up

  • You're shaping a strategy — a new market, a pricing change, a reorg. You want a thinking partner that weighs the second-order effects, not a model that lists the obvious options. Opus 4.8 is the pick.
  • You're building the financial case for a decision — a model, a memo, a board deck. You want the numbers tight and the narrative honest about what's uncertain.
  • You're running a multi-day project as a Swarm — Opus 4.8 leads, plans, and synthesizes while cheaper models gather and draft.

Try it

  • "Build me a market-entry strategy for this product in the EU — weigh the regulatory, competitive, and pricing trade-offs."
  • "Work through the financials on this acquisition target and tell me where the deal breaks."
  • "Run a research swarm: you lead and synthesize, workers gather sources and draft sections."

Heads up

  • EU-only geofencing supported. When your work requires EU data residency, Opus 4.8 requests can be pinned to EU-hosted infrastructure so prompts and outputs stay in-region — useful for regulated strategic and financial work.
  • Opus 4.8 replaces Opus 4.7 and Opus 4.6 in the picker. Both are retired from the active model list.
  • It's the most powerful — and priciest — model the auto-router will reach for. Pricing is unchanged from Opus 4.7. For routine work, let Auto keep you out of frontier-tier, or pick a lighter model yourself.
  • Available on every package — from Community up through Pro Max, Black, and the VIP tiers. Pick it from the SOTA section on any plan.
